"By riverside, a pair of turtledoves are cooing; there is a maiden fair whom a young man is wooing". Following the tweets of turtledoves, we travel through thousands of years and land on the bank of the beautiful river Tanhe. The ancient Book of Poetry is being sung here and there. A group of young girls are singing merrily and dancing gracefully among the mulberry trees. Here the young King Wu encounters a gorgeous girl named Ning'er and they fall in love soon.

Enticed by Daji, King Zhou killed King Wu's elder brother who was minced into pieces and made into meat cakes. King Zhou also threatened King Wu with the survival of his vassal state and coerced him into casting the Four-goat Square Zun. To save her lover and the people of Zhou, Ning'er sacrificed herself as a substitute of King Wu. By the riverside of Tanhe, their beautiful love ended in despair.

When the Deer Terrace pavilion was completed, King Wu paid tribute to King Zhou with the Four-goat Square Zun. The fully-gratified King Zhou gave a banquet with wine pond and meat forest to treat the governors from all vassal states. Beneath the voluptuous life and peaceful atmosphere, a vital revolution was quietly brewing up, one that would change the historic pattern of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties.

In 1046 B.C, King Wu led an army of 45,000 soldiers, along with 300 chariots and 3000 elites to fight against King Zhou who had hundreds of thousands of soldiers in Muye, which is historically-known as the Battle of Muye. This battle is recognized as one of the famous battles where one troop stands in disadvantage but trounces the opponents. It deeply affects the course of Chinese history.

The tranquil Tanhe witnesses the elapse of three thousand years, hearing stories of the beauty and the hero. The virtues of truth and beauty, persistence and perseverance, sacrifice and great love, have been influencing the people of Ningxiang for generations. This is the place of legend and homeland of Concubine Ning: Ningxiang.
