When Taizhou-based landscapes meet world-class shows, a legend of the new era is emerging from the shore of the East China Sea. On May 30th, 2025, Taizhou Bay New Area Management Committee, Taizhou Development and Investment Group Co., Ltd., and Songcheng Performance Development Co., Ltd. jointly signed the major project of the “Romantic Show of Donghai”. Guided by the “Belt & Road” Initiative, the project aims to be a worldwide influential new benchmark of cultural shows and make a new example of cultural tourism with global visions for Taizhou.

Taizhou features unique resources of both mountains and seas, boasting the historical context of Taizhou as a city with a history over one thousand years. From the pioneering spirits of Wei Wen’s fleet in the Three Kingdoms, to the philosophic deposits of harmonious culture, and to the landscape legends written by Xu Xiake……The city has made distinctive notes in the books of Chinese civilization.

With the in-depth implementation of the “Belt & Road” Initiative, Taizhou has seen new development opportunities in cultural tourism. The win-win alliance between Taizhou Bay New Area and Songcheng Performance is a key measure of the new area in adhering to “strengthening tourism with culture, promoting culture with tourism”. Based on the leading experiences of Songcheng Performance, “No.1 Performance Company in the World”, in global cultural tourism shows, both parties will jointly build the “Romantic Show of Donghai”, a major show with “performances” as its core competence and integrating Taizhou’s regional culture, ocean culture, harmonious culture, and Silk Road culture.

As a general cultural tourist destination integrating performances, cultural experiences, and leisure, the Donghai Romance Park will have immersive experiences combining local landscapes and cultural epics. The project will not only introduce cutting-edge technology for stage effects, but also deliver cultural confidence through innovative storytelling to offer vital historical deposits in a young, internationalized manner.

As the core show of the park, the “Romantic Show of Donghai” will adopt immersive stage techniques and use shadows and picturesque landscapes to display the magnificent epic of the ancient people in Southeast China. From the ancient echoes of ancient people in 5,000 years ago to Wei Wen’s journey to Taiwan, from the romantic legends of East China Sea to the Silk Road pleasures of harmonious culture……Visitors will experience the splendid civilization in the virtual, actual space-time by following the magic sounds and lights.

At night, the live-action show “Maritime Silk Road” is performing Chinese people’s magnificent efforts in exploring oceans and the rest of the world for over 2,000 years. Besides, the project will integrate the heroic spirits and poetic deposits in Chinese and foreign cultures and history. Mobile shows, mythic shows, shadow shows, family shows, silk road shows, and large parades will be performed to display the cultures of different periods to make visitors experience the magnificent epics and cultural sceneries inside the park or experience the ocean styles and silk road culture in the simulated streets.

The signing of the world-class IP not only illustrates the century-old cultural contexts, but also effectively activates local urban development. She will definitely help Taizhou shift to an international cultural exchange platform from a regional tourist destination. In the future, the Donghai Romance Park will be an window for visitors to know China’s maritime civilization as well as an arena for world civilization dialogues. Taizhou will deliver exciting Chinese stories to the rest of the world in a more open manner.
